Rum and Coke also called “Cuba Libre” is a traditional Cuban cocktail with rum. We made this one with Zacapa Rum from Guatemala.

The Rum and Coke cocktail is a combination of rum and cola with a twist of lemon; And it is also called Cuba Libre.

This recipe for the Rum and Coke Cocktail is brought to you in collaboration with TheBarInsiders.com community and ZacapaĀ® 23. Enjoy with moderation and do not drink and drive.

This Cuban cocktail is a combination of rum and cola with a twist of lemon. This beverage appeared in the 1900s in Havana, Cuba.

After that, many countries adopted the Cuba libre rum and coke or “cubita” and Mexico wasn’t the exception. This libation is a typical adult beverage offered at parties.

For mother’s day at home, we would celebrate with a big lunch and all the generations will gather for a special occasion. The celebrated moms were mamĆ” grande my great grandmother DoƱa Carlotita, MamĆ” Licha my grandmother, and my mom Rosa Elena.

We would have a beautiful table decorated with roses and many different dishes like chicken mole, Mexican rice, and guacamole. Now that I live in Florida, the celebrations are different but still enjoy a Cuban cocktail as part of the menu.

The Rum and Coke cocktail is a combination of rum and cola with a twist of lemon; And it is also called Cuba Libre.

While testing the ZacapaĀ® 23, the flavor and aromatic notes of this rum brought me back home and to my Latino roots. Lorena VĆ”squez, the only female Master Blenders in the world, is the one in charge of the production of Zacapa rum.

Lorena is Nicaraguan by birth, and she has a degree in chemistry, food technology, and business administration. She moved to Guatemala after she married and joined the Zacapa Quality Control department, where she developed her innate sensitivity to scents and flavors.

Lorena is passionate about the art of crafting premium rum. And you can tell because this rum is smooth and you can enjoy straight up or on the rocks.

But  I am suggesting to use it for crafting a high-quality Cuba Libre Cocktail inspired in the original from Havana, Cuba. I have added fresh mint that complements well the bouquet of this exquisite rum with the cola and the lemon twist.
