Cheers to a tasty and spicy manila mango mocktail or agua fresca with chamoy!
Because not all in this life can be boozy, we wanted to make an agua fresca with a mocktail flair but using seasonal flavors and of course, some spice.
This spicy manila mango mocktail is super easy to prepare the secret is to use fruit at the peak of the season and make sure to use manila mangoes as those have a tart flavor and are a perfect pairing with seasoned salt.
For a floral note, this mocktail has yellow lemon or citron which is also in season and helps to brighten up the drink and use as a garnish for serving.
The spicy salt we are using is a commercial brand with hints of lime and the perfect balance between salty and spicy but not overwhelming.
Mexican Cuisine is all about sweet and savory treats!
In Mexican cuisine, we enjoy pairing sweet and savory elements in desserts, dishes, and drinks. We like sweet fruits such as mango and pineapple seasoned with salt and chamoy too.
Chamoy is a spicy condiment made with pickled stone fruit, spicy peppers, and salt. It comes in powder, but it is also available as a sauce. Good garnishing for cocktails and mocktails too.
A famous Mexican treat is called magonada, a blend of spicy manila mango ice cream, chamoy, and classic Mexican candy straw. All served on a cup and eaten slowly to enjoy the sweet and savory experience.
Last year when I visited Mexico, I went to a famous ice cream shop in Coyoacan, and I had one of these yummy magonada treats.
This flavor is a staple of many children’s treats eaten after school. Or as a snack between meals. I remember those days when eating a big fruit cocktail with spicy manila mango, jicama, oranges, cucumbers, and fresh coconut with lime.
This spicy manila mango agua fresca is reminiscing those favorite childhood flavors that bring us home when sipping something so familiar and refreshing.
