I still cannot believe I brought the Tecla Award home, surreal experience but the feeling of accomplishment it is just incredible. The Tecla Award is given to outstanding social media and content creators in the latino blogosphere and we won the best “Food Creator” category.

I received my Tecla award from the hands of celebrity Chef James Tahhan creator of the concept Sabores by Chef James and star of Telemundo’s morning show Un Nuevo Día. It was such an exciting moment to get the award from somebody I admire and also consider my friend.

The Tecla Awards is Hispanicize national awards program that honors and highlights the achievements of top Latino and multicultural content creators. The star studded Tecla Awards event was produced by Telemundo and DiMe Media. You can imagine many celebrities attended and the atmosphere was just like the Oscar’s. Elegant and fun and also full of surprises and much excitement.

Winners of the 2016 Tecla Award were determined by a Tecla Judges Academy comprised of a blue ribbon panel of leaders shaping the future of U.S. Hispanic social media, entertainment and marketing. The judges include creators, senior brand executives, influencer network leaders, publicists and other experts in the online content development industry.

For me this award has a huge significance as recognizes my labor of almost five years creating recipes and telling stories. Many things have happened since 2011 when I published my first recipe. Ups and downs, successes and defeats, happiness and sour moments too. Having your own small business can be challenging and it requires dedication and consistency.

Also being a recipe developer and a content creator leads to have to educate yourself, become an expert on what you do because we as communicators and social media influencers we have the responsibility to bring our readers not only good content but truthful information. We can only do that by educating ourselves and by becoming better on what we do everyday.

For many years I was a marketing executive, I actually worked on that profession for over thirty years. But one day I decided I wanted to follow my dreams and I reinvented myself to become a food writer and be a small business owner.

My mom never wanted me to pursue a career in culinary because it is very demanding job. So I decided to study marketing but I always knew in my heart food was my passion and now I can say I did full circle.

If I made it you can make it happen too, sky is the limit!
