Halloween and Día de Los Muertos festivities are fast approaching and I thought would be appropriate to create a recipe for a Peligroso Tequila Iced Coffee. A  spiked coffee drink inspired in the Mexican café de olla but using coffee flavored soda, cinnamon tequila, and condensed milk.

Based on the flavor profiles of the Mexican Coffee I have created a fun cocktail that can be served on your next Halloween party or offered to your beloved on the Day of the Dead festivities, which provides us the chance to remember there is life after death and that death can be celebrated the same way we celebrate life.

In Mexico, there is this tradition of preparing café de olla or Mexican coffee, coffee made with freshly ground coffee beans, cinnamon sticks and sugar on the raw also called piloncillo. This coffee is a favorite for drinking after a heavy meal or served on funerals where rum or tequila is added to the hot coffee to be able to stay awake until following day for giving the ultimate farewell to the deceased.

Having a cocktail that is appropriate for the occasion and that embraces my culture and traditions I think is a fun way to introduce my friends and family to my beliefs and delicious flavors of my Mexican cuisine.

For this Peligroso Tequila Iced Coffee I have used a gourmet coffee soda made with Arabica coffee and natural flavors but this drink pairs well with cold brewed coffee and latino sodas like malta if you decide not use the coffee soda. We Mexicans love condensed milk and coffee it is sweet and provides a creaminess to the drink so makes a great addition to this adult drink.

Hoping you enjoyed this recipe, wishing you a fabulous Halloween and blessed Day of the Dead celebrations.

Cheers!
